How to get the café in Animal Crossing

The Roost is a well-loved haunt from previous Animal Crossing games.

You can hang out at The Roost, get coffee and, in time, receive coffee-related items from Brewster himself, but it’s not immediately available when Blathers moves his museum onto your island.

Before you can unlock The Roost, Blathers needs to have a speech bubble above his head so he can talk to you about Brewster.

In order to have the right conditions to get Blathers talking about Brewster, there’s a few thing you’ll need under your belt:

  • A 3-star island
  • Unlocked Saturday visits from KK
  • Each section of the museum unlocked (fish, bugs, fossils, art, sea creatures) with at least one donation in each area
  • Playing on version 2.0

Once you have all of the above, you should see Blathers with a speech bubble above his head. When you talk to him, he’ll tell you about how he wants to attract more visitors to the museum and knows just the pigeon who can help – Brewster!

After speaking to Blathers, your mission is to find Brewster by taking one of Kapp’n’s tours to a Mystery Island (remember the trip will cost you 1,000 Nook Miles).

Once you’ve traveled to the faraway island, you should see Brewster roaming the grounds. At some point during your conversation with him, be sure to choose the option to mention Blather’s message – don’t leave without doing this!

Brewster will then give you a message to relay back to Blathers (so many messages, so little time!) when you return home.

All that’s left for you to do is get back to your island, head to the museum and speak to Blathers so you can pass on the final message. After that point, Blathers will let you know the museum will be closed the following day to allow for refurbishment of the museum to include The Roost!

Where is the café in ACNH?

Once you’ve unlocked The Roost and it’s ready for customers, you can find it by heading to your museum, going up the stairs and turning into the doorway on your left.

If you need guidance, there’s a sign in the hallway prompting you of its location to the left.

What can you do at The Roost?

Unlike other games, you can’t work at The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, you can get coffee like normal for 200 bells a cup.

You may come across island characters relaxing in The Roost too! From Isabelle to Daisy Mae, try visiting at different times of day and different days of the week to see who you spot sipping on a cup of Joe!

You can also buy takeout coffee for 300 bells a cup, which has the same effect as if you’d eaten fruit. Once fuelled with coffee, you can dig up trees and break rocks up to 3 times in total.

The more coffee you drink and interactions you have with Brewster, the more he’ll come to like and trust you. After a while, he’ll start giving you coffee-related items and clothing which you can use on your character, home or dotted around your island for a cozy, coffee shop vibe.

If Blathers hasn’t spoken to you about Brewster yet, it’s probably because you don’t have one or more of the prerequisites for The Roost.

Remember that the art and sea creature areas of the museum need to have at least one donation. It’s easy to overlook those areas of the museum, but you need them open before Blathers can talk to you about Brewster.

How to get The Roost in ACNH

Get Blathers talking about Brewster by making sure your island has at least 3 stars, regular visits from KK and all areas of your museum are open with at least one donation.

Before long, you’ll be sipping coffee in the comfort of The Roost.
