Bridges are an important part of ACNH life; their construction will go towards a 3-star rating, progress the game’s storyline, and help you design the island of your dreams.
But sometimes, the bridges we pick in haste aren’t the bridges we adore later on. Let’s dive into what you can do to change up the bridges across your island.
How to change a bridge type in ACNH
To demolish a bridge and build a new one takes two days and a lot of bells.
You can change a bridge type by first demolishing the current bridge. Visit Tom Nook in the Resident Services building and speak to him about infrastructure.
After selecting bridges/inclines, you can then select the demolition option. It’ll cost you 10,000 bells for the privilege and take a day to complete, but once it’s done you can build the new bridge style you’ve got your eyes on.
If you change your mind about your new bridge before it’s in construction, you can speak to Tom Nook and ask him to cancel the build. Any bells you’ve donated to create the bridge won’t be refunded though, so proceed with caution!
Don’t worry about islanders not being able to access certain parts of your island whilst the bridge is in construction either. The game allows islanders to simply turn up on inaccessible areas of land, so their in-game walks and movements won’t be disturbed!
How do you get different bridges?
There are eight different bridge types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, ranging from a log bridge which costs 98,000 to the most expensive bridge styles which cost 228,000 bells.
To see the list of bridges, talk to Tom Nook at Resident Services about infrastructure, specifically bridges.
If you want to get a different bridge to one that’s currently built on your island, you’ll need to follow the steps above and change the bridge type by demolishing what’s currently there.
How many bridges and inclines do you need for a 3-star island?
For that coveted 3-stars, your island needs to have at least two bridges and two inclines.
As well as this, your island must have eight villagers, fruit trees (both your native fruit and the additional fruit available on mystery islands), twenty-seven furniture items (no duplicates!), and fifty fencing pieces.
When picking your bridge and incline styles, remember that if you want to change them later you’ll have to demolish them first – so choose wisely the first time around!
How many bridges are you allowed in ACNH?
As standard, you can have eight bridges or inclines on your island.
As of the 2.0 update, you can buy a Pro Construction License, which gives you allowance for an extra two bridges or inclines.
The addition of two infrastructure elements should come as welcome news to players with big dreams for their island aesthetic!
To purchase the Pro Construction License, head to your Nook Miles Terminal in Resident Services and find the license listed under Nook Miles Rewards.
Can you make a diagonal bridge in ACNH?
Yes, you can make diagonal bridges in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. To create a diagonal bridge, you need both sides of the land to be parallel to each other, and, well, diagonal!
This style of bridge will take up the same amount of space as your typical horizontal or vertical bridges.
A pitfall of this design, though, is if you have paths leading up to the bridge, they won’t sit perfectly flush (paths under buildings and residents’ homes have this same problem!). You’ll notice gaps of grass in between your desired path and the bridge, which could make diagonal bridges a little less desirable for some.
Changing bridge types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Whilst it’s a costly project, you can change your bridge type in ACNH by demolishing the current bridge for 10,000 bells and constructing a new one in its place a day later.
To get the process underway, talk to Tom Nook at Resident Services about infrastructure and bridges. Happy building!
