If a spider is next on your “to-catch” list to fill your critterpedia, we got you! These elusive arachnids aren’t as rare as you might think, and catching them is a doddle compared to their less common counterparts, the tarantula.
Let’s get into how you can approach and catch a spider in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!
How to catch a spider in a tree in ACNH
During rain or shine, summer or winter, spiders are ready to be caught on your island trees all year round.
Go spider hunting between 7pm and 8am to find these critters.
To nab one, you’ll need to shake a whole lot of hardwood and cedar trees (which, of course, comes with its own risk – WASPS!). When you shake a tree that a spider is settled in, it’ll dangle down and hang there, sometimes swaying from side to side.
If you miss it, it’s not all over! Move to the other side of the tree and shake it again, as the spider will alternate which side it dangles from.
Swing your net and catch it before it crawls back up its web into the depths of the tree foliage!
You only need to shake a tree once to see if a spider is living in it, as one shake is enough for the critter to bungee down from his safe haven in the branches.
Villagers will sometimes look up at trees as they walk past, which could indicate wasps, a bagworm, or a spider living in the leaves. Always keep your net equipped when shaking trees in case wasps fall out and you need to protect yourself!
What can you do with spiders?
Donate the spider you caught to boost your bug collection at the museum. We know Blathers hates bugs, but he’ll be happy to get the collection closer to being finished (and never have to accept a bug donation again!).
You can also sell the spider for bells. Timmy and Tommy will give you 600 bells for one, but if you can hold out for Flick, then you’ll receive a premium price!
How rare are spiders in Animal Crossing?
Spiders are pretty common in ACNH. Unlike their rarer counterparts, tarantulas, spiders are easily found and will remain in the tree until caught – there’s no chasing these eight-legged arachnids!
Whilst you might have to go on a tree-shaking crusade across your island, eventually, you’ll land on a spider so long as you’re playing between 7pm and 8am.
Can spiders bite you in Animal Crossing?
Unlike tarantulas and viscous scorpions, spiders don’t bite or cause fainting. They don’t move from their spot in the tree (except from one side to the other if you miss them).
These harmless creatures simply dangle and sway.
Catching spiders in ACNH
Spiders are easy critters to catch. Wield your net and get tree-shaking between 7pm and 8am to find one! Remember to donate it to the museum, or sell it for bells at Nook’s Cranny or to Flick!
So, what are you waiting for? Get tree-shaking, my friend!
