How to catch a scorpion in Animal Crossing

Catching scorpions is a great way to make bells, but they’re elusive creatures. Trying to catch them can look like an impossible task, but it doesn’t have to be.

With the right know-how, you’ll be catching scorpions and cashing in those bells before you know it.

What is the easiest way to catch a scorpion in ACNH?

Despite the hype, catching scorpions isn’t as hard as you think.

To catch a scorpion you need to:

  • When you see the scorpion, equip your net and hold ‘A’ to start creeping
  • Using the right analog stick, crepe closer to the scorpion until it raises its pincers up in anger and “hisses” at you
  • At this point – STOP WALKING. DON’T MOVE. Keep your net wielded and wait until the scorpion’s pincers are lowered again
  • Slowly creep forward until the pincers are raised
  • Repeat the above steps until you’re a net’s length away from the scorpion
  • Wait until the pincers are down and let your net fly!

And that is how you catch a scorpion. It’s a drawn-out process, but it’s worth it once you can confidently catching them.

How do you attract scorpions in Animal Crossing?

For the northern hemisphere, scorpions will appear on your island between the months of May and October.

For southern hemisphere islands, you’ll see scorpions between November and April.

There’s nothing you can specifically do to attract scorpions over other insects and bugs, however, scorpions do tend to appear more in the rain as other bugs and insects are deterred from the wet weather.

Scorpions spawn on flat land, so if your island features a lot of terraforming and dense tree areas, you’re less likely to see scorpions scuttling around.

Try cutting an area of flat land by digging up and moving trees or any obstructions. This simple change may just help you see scorpion numbers increase.

How rare are scorpions in ACNH?

Scorpions and tarantulas are pretty rare, and they require a lot of patience in order to catch them.

But they’re also worth a lot of bells.

If you sell a scorpion to Timmy & Tommy at Nook’s Cranny, they’ll give you 8,000 bells. However, if you save your scorpions for Flick’s next visit, you can get a healthy 12,000 bells for one!

What time can you catch a scorpion?

These creepy creatures don’t come out during the day – you can expect to see them roaming around your island between the hours of 7pm and 4am.

What happens when a scorpion gets you?

When stung by a scorpion your character will faint and hit the floor. The screen fades to black and you’ll eventually respawn in the same spot, albeit slightly dazed.

If you get stung on a Mystery Tour, you’ll respawn by Wilbur.

The scorpion that stung you will despawn after using its sting, however, there’s normally a replacement nearby so keep an eye out!

Scorpions not spawning in Animal Crossing

There are a few reasons why scorpions aren’t spawning on your island. First off, you need to be playing during the hours of 7pm and 4am; anything outside of those times and you won’t see a single scorpion.

But what if you’ve been playing during those times and still haven’t seen one?

Walking in and out of island houses and buildings will refresh the bugs and insects that have spawned.

Make sure that there are areas of tree-less flat ground on your island for scorpions to spawn. Areas covered in trees increase the spawn rate of air and tree-residing bugs.

How to farm scorpions

There are two ways you can farm scorpions using Mystery Tours:

  • Finding scorpion island (an island that will have multiple scorpions roaming around from the moment you arrive)
  • Bamboo island – or an alternative (islands you can manipulate to create the right environment for scorpions to spawn)

We’re going to focus on the latter.

To embark on a Mystery Tour, you need to buy a Nook Miles ticket at your Nook Stop for 2,000 miles. Then head to your airport between 7pm and 4am, and hop onboard Dodo Airlines.

Bamboo island is full of bamboo trees, weeds, and a few rocks. You’ll need to pick up all the weeds, dig up all the flowers, break all the rocks and cut down all the trees (including coconut trees). Remember to eat the coconuts so you can break the rocks.

Once the island is completely clear, drop your unwanted resources and items on the beach to free up your inventory, and run around the island in search of scorpions.

You might need to run along the rocky areas on the beach to get rid of any wharf roaches or dig up any mole crickets if you can hear them singing.

Keep running around until scorpions appear!

In many cases, scorpions may not spawn and you might find other bugs and insects appearing instead i.e dragonflies and beetles. If this happens, go home! Not all bamboo islands will be profitable, so rather than wasting time waiting for scorpions to arrive, go back home and try again.

There are a few others islands that work well for scorpion farming, so try the above method on different Mystery Tours and see what works!

It’s not as hard as it may first seem, right? You can catch scorpions using your net, but knowing the exact method is key to avoid getting stung!

If you’re planning on farming scorpions on Bamboo Island, make sure you’ve got your net and shovel ready!

Before you know it, you’ll be rolling in bells thanks to those pesky scorpions!
