Brewster is a coffee-brewing character who was eagerly awaited by legacy Animal Crossing fans. Our favorite pigeon appeared in various AC games, including Wild World in 2005 and New Leaf in 2012.
As a fan favorite, it was only a matter of time before the ACNH developers brought him into the game (although many players were critical of why he didn’t appear sooner).
In New Horizons, Brewster and his cafe, The Roost, play a much smaller role than in previous games. However, there’s still much to be gained from forging a relationship with Brewster!
What is the point of Brewster in Animal Crossing?
For players who indulged in previous versions of Animal Crossing, Brewster became a much-loved character. His cranky personality that slowly warmed up as you dedicated time to blossoming your friendship with him was a calming, anxiety-free replication of how in-person connections are made.
However, in the previous games, there was less focus on designing your island and creating aesthetics, and more on living. Interactions with NPCs were central to the game, and whilst you could still decorate your home, warming up to characters and interacting with them was the joy of the game – slow-paced town life with a focus on relationship-building.
In New Horizons, Brewster brings The Roost, a cozy cafe nestled in the corner of Blather’s museum.
As NPCs go, Brewster doesn’t do much talking, but his introverted nature doesn’t mean he’s not a kind soul! From Brewster, you can receive gifts, buy coffee to drink in, and purchase takeout coffee.
How to find Brewster in ACNH
Before you can get Brewster, there are certain requirements your island has to have fulfilled.
We’ve created an in-depth guide into what you need to do to get The Roost, but before you get started, this is what you need to have:
- Minimum 3-star island
- Kapp’n at your pier, ready to give a tour
- Each area of your museum open (including art and sea creatures) with at least one donation in each section
- Be the island rep (if you’re a secondary player, you’ll need to hand over the reins of this mission to the main player)
- Have KK visit your island every Saturday
- Playing on version 2.0 of ACNH
Once you’ve met these conditions, you should see Blathers with a speech bubble above his head, which is where the mission starts!
Note: You can’t start your mission of finding Brewster during Blathers’s stamp event or whilst friends are visiting.
What can you do at Brewster’s?
Unlike in the 2005 Animal Crossing: Wild World, you can’t get a job at The Roost after befriending Brewster. However, the cozy cafe is the perfect backdrop to take time out from your dailies and enjoy the slow pace of island life.
At The Roost you can;
- Speak to other islanders, including Isabelle if you catch her on a coffee break
- Speak to visitors like Daisy Mae (who can give you secret DIYs!)
- Use the Amiibo call center to invite characters for a coffee (remember they might bring other characters with them too!)
- Invite friends to join you in the cafe – you’ll even get to sit on the plush group seating which is off-limits for solo player visits
- Sit at the bar and order a coffee for 200 bells from Brewster with the option, on your 6th day of drinking coffee, of adding pigeon milk to it (you can make your mind up on that one!)
- Buy takeout coffee for 300 bells
- Receive Brewster rewards for your daily patronage
Does Brewster’s coffee do anything?
Drinking coffee either at the bar or takeout adds to your daily count of coffee drinking, which goes towards your Brewster rewards (we’ll get to that, don’t worry).
However, drinking takeout coffee also has more immediate benefits. If you go to the cash register and speak to Brewster, you’ll have the option to buy takeout coffee for 300 bells.
Once fully drunk, takeout coffee is equivalent to eating 3 fruits, so if you need to dig up trees or break rocks consider stopping by The Roost.
What happens if you visit Brewster every day?
Apart from getting some island respite in The Roost, visiting Brewster every day has some additional benefits.
Firstly, Brewster will gradually warm up to you the more you speak to him. Shy and somewhat direct at first, the coffee-brewing Pigeon soon embraces friendship after consistent, daily attempts at conversation.
More notably for most players, drinking one cup a day (either takeout or in the cafe) will count towards your Brewster rewards. And don’t worry about skipping a day; the counter doesn’t reset if you take time out from island life.
So, what are the rewards you ask? Let’s see them in the order you’ll receive them:

Coffee beans | 10 | Comes in five variations: Original, Kilimanjaro, Blue Mountain, Mocha, and Decaf |
Cup with saucer | 15 | A cute cup with The Roost’s logo on the side, this item can be reordered in your Nook Shopping catalog for 1,200 bells |

Can you drink too much coffee at Brewster’s?
Nope, nothing happens to you if you purchase copious amounts of coffee.
You’ll still see the same dialog from Brewster, and you won’t gain any special benefits from rinsing your bells on cups of joe.
Any warnings Brewster gives to players about drinking too much coffee are directed to caution younger players who might not know about the impacts of caffeine in real life.
Within the game, it has no negative – or positive – effects.
