Medicine is a commonly-used item in ACNH due to its healing properties for sick villagers and savage wasp stings.
However, some players have reported this recipe mysteriously disappearing. If this has happened to you, you can still get your hands on medicine and its DIY recipe.
Missing ACNH medicine recipe
If you’ve been stung by wasps but your inventory was full at the time, you may have thought you received the DIY from a villager… but didn’t!
Don’t panic – if you don’t have the medicine DIY in your roster of learned recipes, you can get your hands on it again.
Either time travel or wait until the following Animal Crossing day and get shaking those trees! Once you’ve been stung by a wasp, speak to a villager who should then hand you the recipe to learn.
Just make sure your inventory isn’t full so you have space for the DIY!
Remember that medicine won’t help you with tarantula or scorpion stings as these make you faint, rather than wound you!
How to get Medicine in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There are three ways to get your hands on medicine in ACNH:
- Craft it using the medicine DIY
- Buy it from Nook’s Cranny
- Gift from villagers
Craft it using the medicine recipe
After being stung by wasps, talk to your villagers and one of them should give you a medicine DIY to learn.
If this doesn’t happen, wait until a new ACNH day to get stung and try talking to villagers again. At some point, one of them will give you the recipe!
The medicine DIY uses one wasp’s nest and three clumps of weeds (store some weeds in case you need them for this recipe one day), so it’s a pretty simple recipe to craft.
Once you’ve crafted the medicine, go to your inventory and select it by pressing ‘A’ and the ‘Take medicine’ option. Your character will use the medicine and be as good as new – phew!
Buy it from Nook’s Cranny
To find the medicine in Nook’s Cranny, head to the glass cabinet to the right of the store and scroll down the items until you find the medicine.
One medicine costs 400 bells and sells for 100 bells.
Timmy & Tommy also offer to sell medicine in bulk so you can stock up for future use. To buy 5 medicines, you’ll need to hand over 2,000 bells.
Gifted medicine from villagers
Getting your hands on the medicine DIY has an added benefit in ACNH; once you’ve previously received and learned it, you can save time crafting and get it directly from villagers instead.
After being stung, talk to islanders as some will give you the medicine you need there and then, so long as you’ve previously learned the recipe.
This is a great way to get medicine for free and without the time commitment of crafting!
How do you get medicine when Nook’s cranny is closed?
If Nook’s Cranny is closed and you haven’t stocked up on medicine, talk to villagers to see if anyone will give you some.
If your islanders are being stingy and not gifting any medicine, simply save and reload the game. When you boot up again, you’ll be back to normal!
Getting the medicine recipe in ACNH
If you’ve noticed your medicine DIY hasn’t landed in your learned recipe roster, you likely got it when you had a full inventory.
To get the recipe again, wait for a new day in ACNH and get stung so you can talk to villagers about getting medicine. Sooner or later, you’ll receive the recipe!
Alternatively, you can buy medicine from Nook’s Cranny or receive it from villagers after you’ve learned the DIY.
